Claire Bechard

Claire Bechard (she/her) is from Newport, MI where she trained with her local ballet company under the direction of Gail Choate-Pettit and Melissa Moore. In addition, she attended summer intensives with the Boston Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Chicago, and BalletMet Columbus.In her training she has focused on pointe, partnering, contemporary, improv, and musical theater. She received her BFA in dance performance from Wayne State University. During that time she expanded her training in modern dance, choreography, and ballet. In 2019 she joined Suttle Dance Detroit under the direction and choreography of Sylvia Suttle. With Suttle Dance she has performed at the Brighton Dance Festival, The Michigan Ballet Festival, and Detroit City Dance Festival. For her choreographic projects she focuses on multimedia productions relating to interpersonal relationships, nature, and dance in the community. During her youth she began student teaching which then developed into a passionate career in dance education for the River Raisin Ballet Company, Eisenhower Dance Detroit, Jordan Mack Adult Dance, and Monroe Public Schools. Claire’s philosophy, sourced from a 1960s edition of TIME magazine is “dancing is good exercise, a social grace, and a means of livelihood”.
